About a week ago, Dylan seemed to be a little congested. I didn't think much of it. He didn't have a fever and DID NOT act like he was feeling bad. I did kindof think he was getting sick though. Last Christmas, Dylan was very sick! We had to rotate ibuprofin and tylenol every 2 hours to try to get a 104 fever to break.....
I was just praying we weren't going to go through that again. So....on Friday we ventured to my brothers. Dylan wasn't being himself. I took him to a "Happy Birthday, Jesus" party and he was all over the place and not interested in what was going on. He wouldn't eat or drink! I had a feeling he didn't feel well, but just pushed it to the back of my mind. We ventured to my brothers around noon. Dylan slept the entire trip. He did great Friday night with eating dinner LATE, going to a Santa house, and celebrating Christmas with his cousins. Saturday morning he coughed a few times when we woke up, but then seemed fine. We went to my nephew's basketball game and it was then that I realized that he really didn't feel well. He sat in my lap and watched the game and did not move! That isn't like him. After about 45 minutes he wanted down (but only bc his cousin was teasing him). We walked around the facility and checked out the swimming pool. I let him finish his breakfast (he didn't want to eat that moring either). Michael and I decided that we would hang out for a while and head back home instead of waiting until Sunday morning. THANK GOODNESS WE DID.
Sunday morning Dylan woke up with a fever and a bad cough. We gave him tylenol off and on all day and ended up giving him a dose of ibuprofin later Sunday evening when his temperature reached 102. All I could think about was last year and how horrible it was going to be for him to be sick on Christmas. Well....here's where the difference takes place.
Monday morning I got up, got dressed and ready, and called the doctor's office as soon as they opened. I wasn't sure if the would even be opened since it was Christmas Eve and then I wondered if they would close early. They had an opening at 9:00, but it wasn't with Dylan's doctor. I was ok with that (I just wanted my baby to be better). ....back track......last year this same thing happened. I took Dylan to the doctor (we no longer see) and was told he was fine! fast forward...... We arrived at the doctor's office, waited about 5 minutes in the waiting room and another 5 minutes in the room (service is quick when you have a little one). I told the nurse that he had the same symptoms last year, but had to make a trip to the ER because the doctor wouldn't give him any meds. So...when the doctor came in, he did the usual, and said "this little one is sick and we have to get him better for Santa." He said his ear looked yucky and that he had sinus crud. He was great with Dylan. At the time, Dylan didn't have a fever, but he said that it typically comes and goes with little ones. He gave Dylan some meds and on our way we went. By late Monday night, Dylan was feeling some better and enjoyed celebrating with family. By Christmas Day he was well enough to go strong for about 5 hours before crashing and taking a 4 hour nap!!!
He was acting very bad, not listening to anything we said, and all over the place. We stopped the tylenol/cold meds ( I have a bad reaction to them) and he was back to his sweet self. He also has take 3-4 hour naps for 2 days in a row and slept the entire night (he was waking up, crying out). He still has a little cough, but I think he is almost better!
