16 Months

Dylan turned 16 months old on the 26th!  Oh my, time is flying.

Weight: 21 lbs at his 15 month check-up.  I'm guess he is still the same.

Height: 29 inches (at 15 month check-up)  He looks the same.

Head Circumference: not sure.

Motor skills: Dylan is all over the place.  He claps his hands, rubs lotion in on his hands, and climbs, climbs, climbs!  He has tried coloring before now, but this month he can actually hold a crayon or pen tight enough to make a mark.  He loves to color and we think he is a lefty!  He is beginning to use a spoon/fork (prefers a metal fork like Mommy and Daddy) on his own and uses his left hand.  He has been feeding himself for a while, but we have had to put the food on the spoon/fork.  He refuses our help now.  It takes a while and is very messy, but he's happy at the table if we do not help.  He tries to put his clothes on and has actually been successful at putting on a shoe.  He worked nearly an hour one afternoon and eventually got his foot in it.
He has learned how to get off of the changing table, into and out of the kitchen chairs, and clean with the hand vaccuum.
He stacks blocks, puts legos together, pushes cars/trucks across the floor, opens and closes books, and mimics any activity he sees.
Eating: Dylan eats waffles, pancakes, fruit, yogurt, biscuits, or cheerios with juice (more like water with a splash of juice) for breakfast about 45 minutes after he wakes up each morning. He has a sippy cup of milk around 9:30 with a light snack (nutri grain bar, goldfish crackers, fruit, graham crakers, etc.) For lunch, Dylan eats anything the baby sitter fixes him (sometimes not what Mommy and Daddy want him to have). We feed him leftovers from the night before, half of a pimento cheese sandwich, chicken nuggets, spaghetti o's, ravioli, fruit, veggies, etc. He has water (with a splash of juice) with this meal. After his nap he eats a small snack (fruit, yogurt, crackers, and some milk). For supper, he eats whatever we eat. He isn't a picky eater, he just doesn't eat alot. It's hit or miss. Some meals he cleans his plate and others he picks. He loves rice, bread, corn, green beans, carrots, peas, baked potatoes, french fries, shredded cheese, cucumbers, broccoli, tomatoes, salad, spaghetti, sloppy joes, hamburgers, and chicken nuggets or strips. He isn't a big meat eater unless it is mixed in something. He still doesn't care for mashed potatoes (I think it's the texture).  (same as last month)

Clothes: He is in all 12 months clothes and beginning to wear some 18 months in shirts.  He wears a size 5 in shoes and 2T-3T socks.  He wears a size 4 diaper.

Words (communication):  Same as last month but can now say juice and shake head no when he is asked a question.  No is the answer to everything unless it's about food/drink.  Then he just looks at you or walks into the kitchen.  He constantly blabbers and sings. We aren't sure what he says half the time but know he is trying to tell us something.
He has learned that he can take up to what he wants.  He pulls on your hand and leads you to what he wants and points.

Favorite toy:  He still loves books.  He has become more interested in his lego blocks and blankets.  He is beginning to carry a blanket around with him.  He sleeps with a blanket and will pick it up in the morning when we go get him out of his crib.  It's the cutest thing ever!
Sleeping:  Naptime has changed a little this month.  I talked to Dylan's babysitter about trying to make him wait until later in the afternoon before laying down for a nap.  It just seemed that he wasn't taking a long enough nap in the morning and then he was very fussy in the late afternoon.  We are still transitioning, but it seems to have worked well this week.  He lays down around 1:00 (after lunch and after Michael goes back to work).  He sleeps about 2 and 1/2 hours.  He goes to bed between 7:30 and 8 every night.  He wakes up around 7 a.m.

Memories:  Dylan changes every day and is so much fun.  He amazes me with all that he can/will do.  This month he has climbed onto the kitchen table, climbed in and out of the chairs, learned to open a bottle of lotion, and point to what he wants.

Funny memories:  Just a few nights ago, Michael had to leave to go to the funeral home.  When he got to the funeral home he sent me a text saying it would be a while.  Well..... his sister was visiting.  We were talking and time really slipped up on me.  I noticed Dylan kept coming up to me and crawling into may lap.  I looked at the clock and it was about 15 minutes past his normal bath time/cuddle time.  So, I told April I needed to give Dylan his bath, but she was more than welcome to stay.  Dylan loves bath time and really loves when I give him his bath.  We splash and play and make a big mess!  I was letting him play (as usual) as I sat on the side of the tub just watching.  April and I were still talking.  Dylan stood up and tried to get out of the tub and I encouraged him to sit back down.  Well...he did, but he squated.  All of a sudden......I notice something not so pleasant in the tub!  I got Dylan out quickly and finished his bath in the sink.  Even though it was really gross, April and I laughed until we cried.

Dylan still enjoys to clean.  One night he was very clingy and just wanted me to hold him.  Michael had some things he needed to do and I was trying to clean the kitchen.  He kept fussing, so I put a chair in front of the sink and let him stand beside me and watch.  He loved it.  He did not move!  Well, the next night I was trying to cook dinner before Michael got home.  I opened the back door and let Dylan stand in front of the screen door and look out.  He started leaning on the screen and I was afraid he would break it, so again I put a chair there and let him sit in it as he looked out.  Well...... a few nights later my mom watched Dylan for us because I had class and Michael had a meeting.  I got out of class early and got home in time to eat with my mom and Dylan.  As we were cleaning up, he pulled a chair across the kitchen floor all the way to the sink and crawled up in it.  Now, he does this everytime we start to wash dishes.  I did not realize what I started!

Last story.....
Michael and I went on a few errands one afternoon and then stopped by his dad's paint store.  When we walked in, he had a few customers.  We let Dylan down and just hung out.  There was a rather tall older man in the store.  Dylan kept looking at him and waving.  Michael and I didn't think much of it.  He is normally very friendly.  Well....Dylan kept on and on.  The man wasn't really paying him that much attention.  Dylan walked over to him and sort bent down and then looked up at the man.  It was almost as if he thought he knew him.  I looked at Michael and said, "He must think that is Charles (his babysitter's husband)."  The man finally spoke to Dylan as he was leaving.  A few minutes passed and Michael's dad finally got a chance to say hello.  He asked us if we knew that older man and of course we both said no.  Well, it turns out that it was Charles' brother!!!  We could not believe it!  It's amazing how much children observe!
